We are happy to present some short skateboard movies by Brett Novak, starting with his collaborations with austrian artist Kay Walkowiak! In 2013 they worked on „Minimal Vandalism/Internal Departure“ – a skateboard film featuring Kilian Martin, a freestyle skateboarder interacting with sculptures in a gallery.
After the screening we will host a artist talk/round table!
Brett Novak, a self-proclaimed “Filmer, Skater and Hopeful Creator” was born and raised in the Chicagoland area of the midwestern United States. Obsessed with the video medium from a young age, he became entrenched in the culture of skateboarding. Skating and filming skating at every possible conscience hour, he quickly developed an obsession with reaching into and showcasing a slightly different side of the sport.
Kay Walkowiak is a contemporary artist from Austria. His work is a complex mixture of installation, sculpture, video art and photography and combines conceptual and post minimal strategies. In many of his works the artist explores the historically and socioculturally defined handling of form and questions its functional positing as a projection surface for timeless utopias.
